Vittoria per i padroni di casa della Russia nella staffetta di Sochi. In una gara con molte assenze di personaggi di peso, si aprono diversi scenari con alcune seconde linee delle nazioni più forti in cerca di riscontri e le squadre di seconda fascia pronte ad approfittare delle assenze per portare a casa un podio. La Germania ha concluso al secondo posto con Benedikt Doll in ultima frazione, bravo a resistere all'attacco del ceco Ondrej Moravec. Quindi terzo posto per la Repubblica Ceca, seguita da Norvegia e Francia.
L'Italia ha schierato l'attuale formazione titolare in assetto rivoluzionato con Lukas Hofer al lancio, Dominik Windisch in frazione, Pietro Dutto in terza e Christian De Lorenzi a chiudere. Alla fine è arrivato un sesto posto con buone indicazioni dalle frazioni teoricamente più deboli, ovvero le ultime due con Dutto e De Lorenzi che hanno tenuto contatto con le prime posizioni, giocandosi il podio fino all'ultimo giro. Deludente Hofer in prima frazione, apparso in difficoltà dopo l'ottima individuale di giovedì già nella sprint di ieri, ma è plausibile che il carburante sia agli sgoccioli. Windisch invece non ha replicato lo strepitoso ultimo giro della gara di ieri, ma la sua stagione è assolutamente da incorniciare e per l'anno prossimo potrebbe diventare anche l'uomo di punta della squadra azzurra, se Hofer non dovesse trovare la continuità che si chiederebbe ad un atleta dal suo potenziale.
